Bichectomy or “The Hollywood Cheek” Surgery
Bichectomy, also known as The Hollywood Cheek Surgery, is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at sculpting your face to give it a more contoured, attractive appearance. The surgery will do so by removing the packets of fat deposits called the Bichat bags from inside the cheeks.
By removing this excess unnecessary fat, you can remove the roundish, voluminous appearance of the cheeks to give a more refined, sculpted, and aesthetically pleasing facial structure.
Usually, the Bichat bags would add excessive fat to the layers of your cheek, making the cheekbones less apparent and giving your face a heavier appearance – even if you are at your ideal weight.
Having a bichectomy will help remove the oral fat pads, making your cheekbones more visible, giving you a better-defined jawline, and adding an attractive dimension to your face.
This surgery is also incredibly safe, requires very minor incisions, and is perfect for both men and women who want to achieve a more stylized facial appearance. This surgery is even named the Hollywood cheek surgery because it is preferred by many Hollywood stars who want to get sharper cheekbones and more defined facial contours.
Before you go for a bichectomy, it is highly recommended that you discuss your case at length with our plastic surgeons. You can visit our facility, where we will carefully assess your case and determine if a bichectomy is the right choice for you!
- A bichectomy is a minimally invasive plastic surgery that takes around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Patients are usually administered local anesthesia or general anesthesia before the surgery. As for the surgery, the very capable Dr. Juan David Londoño leads it in his operating rooms at the El Tesoro Medical Tower.
Here’s How It Works
Prior to a bichectomy, you will have an initial consultation with Dr. Juan who will not only discern the results you want to see with this surgery but will also ensure you are fully prepared before your surgery. At least 10 days before surgery, you should avoid the consumption of aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anticoagulants.
On the day of surgery, patients will first be administered general anesthesia. Once they go under, the surgery will be performed orally. Small Incisions, roughly 1 cm-1.5cm in length, are made on the inside of the cheek. These incisions will give enough space to safely remove the required amount of buccal fat.
Post-surgery, patients can return to their daily activities but should take special care. They should strengthen their oral health care regime, particularly during the first two weeks. They should also avoid eating hard foods, use compression bandages as needed, and apply ice packs to the area to avoid inflammation. During the first month, you should also avoid strenuous exercise, smoking, and the consumption of alcohol.
The actual results of the bichectomy will become apparent roughly 1-month post-surgery. However, it will take 3-6 months for the final results to show.
