Otoplasty Medellin

Ear Surgery

Otoplasty, also known as ear surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to correct the shape, size, or positioning of the ears to give your face a more harmonious appearance.

Some minor ear imperfections may be a result of injury or birth defects. The presence of prominent ears called “prominent auricular pavilions” is one example of an infant ear deformity that can easily be corrected through Otoplasty.

The surgery is recommended for both men and women wanting to build self-confidence or improve their appearance. Ear surgery is also recommended for children once they reach the age of 8, by which their ear cartilage becomes stable enough for correction.

To establish the most appropriate methods and techniques for your case, you must schedule an evaluation appointment prior to the surgery. After we assess your case, you will also be provided with a quote for the services requested.

  • This surgical procedure delivers very natural-looking results and will last you a lifetime. The surgery also results in very minor scarring that is generally unnoticeable.

How Long Does Ear Surgery Last?

This procedure can last 2-3 hours, depending on the complexity of your case. Otoplasty is performed after the patient is administered local anesthesia.

To leave minimal scarring, the incisions for this surgery are made at the back of the ear. After this, the surgeon will make the required modifications to the ear cartilage and skin, adding or removing tissue or reshaping the ear as needed.

The patient will need at least two to three days to recover post-surgery. Full recovery can take anywhere from six to eight weeks. During your recovery, you should avoid putting pressure on your ears, touching your ears, or carrying out certain daily activities. The surgical site will also be covered with bandages and dressings that will need to be protected from trauma as you recover.

What to Expect During the Postoperative Period?

Post-surgery, you need to take special care; make sure you do not apply excessive force to your incisions. This is why you should sleep on your back to avoid pressing against the surgical site as it heals.

Once the bandages are removed, a postoperative ear band (a type of compression garment) is to be worn at night for the next 3-4 weeks to prevent your ears from bending forward.

The stitches will dissolve on their own or the surgeon will remove them after sufficient recovery.

After your ear surgery, you will notice a clear difference in your ear structure. Our surgery is aimed at giving you a more cohesive, harmonious appearance, one that will add a boost to your self-esteem.
